Antarctic Cruises and Expeditions

The Antarctic region is becoming more and more accessible, so it is important to decide where you want to go and what you want to see and do. At Antarctic Bound, we have extensive knowledge of the Antarctic region and Antarctica cruise and expedition ships and we are able to offer you Antarctic holidays to suit your exact requirements.

We have Antarctica cruises to the Falkland Islands, South Georgia the Antarctic Peninsula, Ross Sea area and South-Atlantic islands, including Tristan da Cuhna, Bouvet and St. Helena.

Antarctic holidays and expeditions give superb opportunities for wildlife encounters.

Birds abound on all our Antarctica cruises with many rare species regularly encountered. Adelie, Gentoo, Macaroni and Chinstrap penguins around the Peninsula, with Emperor Penguins sometimes seen in the Weddell Sea area. King Penguins are in their hundreds of thousands on South Georgia and the eponymous Rockhopper is seen in the Falklands and Tristan da Cuhna.

You will also see several species of albatross on all Antarctic holidays, including the delightful light-mantled sooty, plus petrels, prions, shearwaters, skuas and many more.

South Georgia is the Jewel in the Crown of the Antarctic region with a greater concentration of wildlife than anywhere else in the world. Vast colonies of King Penguins and breeding Albatross plus the unique South Georgia Pipit.

At sea or on shore, there are many species of cetaceans and pinnipeds. Humpback, Minke, Sei, Orca and other whales and dolphins - you may be lucky enough to see the massive Blue Whale on your Antarctic cruise, the world's largest mammal. Seals abound, including on South Georgia, the lumbering Elephant Seal..

Stunning mountains and magnificent glaciers, fields of ice and snow, Spring meadows and grassland on the Falklands and South Georgia with colourful lichens and wildflowers, gigantic icebergs: Antarctic holidays bring you these views and more. We even have Antarctica cruises on board a ship which carries helicopters for ice landings inside the continent, especially to seek out the elusive Emperor Penguin.

Adventure Activities

On Antarctic holidays in the spring and summer, opportunities abound for a whole range of outdoor activities, not just from your Antarctic cruise ship, but also ashore. Ski cross country in South Georgia following the footsteps of Shackleton, or camp on the ice on a Basecamp itinerary. Ice-climbing; snowshoeing, scuba and snorkelling are available on some Antarctic cruises, whilst many also offer kayaking options.

Culture and History

There is no native culture in this remote and inhospitable region, however on the Falkland Islands and Tristan da Cuhna, you can meet with the very British descendents of 19th and 20th century settlers, who exist by working the land and exploiting the sea.

Follow the great explorers like Scott, Shackleton and Amundsen in their race to the pole and visit their poignant huts and Shackleton's grave. Visit multi-national research stations, especially around the Peninsula. Throughout the region are reminders of the history of exploitation - abandoned settlements created to support the massive whaling industry, which reached its peak in the late 19th century, when the populations of whales and seals were decimated by Norwegian, British, American and hunters from many other nations
