Also on Friday and Saturday, Mick Brown – Ornithologist - will be present. Mick is an all round naturalist with a passion for seabirds and marine life and a photographer since his teens, he has had a variety of jobs ranging from picture gallery proprietor to ecologist working for the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park. He also runs environmental awareness courses for children and adults. Working as a guide he has travelled throughout Europe and now concentrates on the Polar Regions. Offshore Islands with Seal and Seabird colonies are his natural habitat.

Five crates of Scotch whisky and two of brandy have been recovered by a team restoring an Antarctic hut used more than 100 years ago by the polar explorer Ernest Shackleton.

A new concept will be introduced on the Plancius, an 11-nights departure to the Weddell Sea and Antarctic Peninsula from 4th till 15th March 2011. During this trip we will offer a true Basecamp for activities, all activities (field camping, kayaking, glacier walking, snowshoe, hiking, zodiac cruising, shore excursions, photography workshop) packed in one departure and those are included in the ship's price! The vessel "Plancius" will stay for two or three days at these specific locations to serve our active passengers as a comfortable hub to allow more time as usual for wide ranging activities.
